What’s your running rank?
Your running rank is a skill tier calculated from your actual running history. In Runked, ranks run from Bronze I to Olympian across 16 steps. Connect Garmin or Apple Health and the app ranks you instantly using proven sports science; with no history, 3 tracked runs are enough. Every run afterward moves the rank up or down.
Every runner has asked the question: am I actually any good? Race results only answer it a few times a year, and social running apps answer it with kudos, which measure popularity, not running. A rank answers it every single day.
Why runners want a rank
Games figured this out decades ago. A visible rank does three things a mileage log never will:
- It gives every run a stake. An easy Tuesday 5K is no longer filler; it is rank progress.
- It makes progress legible. "I went from Silver II to Gold I this spring" says more than a spreadsheet of splits.
- It is honest. A rank that can fall is worth holding. No participation trophies.
The Runked tiers, explained
Runked places you in one of eight tier families. Bronze through Diamond each have three sub-tiers (III is entry, I is highest), then the ladder narrows sharply:
| Tier | Who's there |
|---|---|
| Bronze I–III | New and returning runners. Where nearly everyone starts. |
| Silver I–III | Consistent runners with a regular weekly routine. |
| Gold I–III | Serious weekly mileage and structured training. |
| Platinum I–III | Roughly the top 15% of runners. |
| Diamond I–III | Highly trained; age-group podium territory. |
| Elite | Around the top 1%. |
| Champion | Top 0.23% of runners. |
| Olympian | Top 0.01%. The summit. |
How the rank is calculated
Runked analyzes your training load over time, the same class of sports-science modelling used by professional coaches, rather than a single best race time. That matters for fairness: it rewards the running you actually do, week after week, and it responds when you stop. Take a month off and your rank drifts down; string together a disciplined training block and it climbs.
How to get your rank
- Download Runked for iPhone (free).
- Connect Garmin Connect or Apple Health during onboarding. Runked reads your running history and calculates your Runk on the spot.
- No history? Track 3 runs with the built-in GPS tracker and your rank is ready.
- Climb. Every synced or tracked run updates your rank. Rank-ups get a full-screen reveal, confetti included.
How to climb faster
The rank tracks your training, so climbing is a training problem, and Runked ships the tools:
- Follow a plan. A personalized training plan schedules the mix of easy runs, tempo work and long runs that actually builds fitness.
- Stay consistent. A running streak with chest rewards at 7, 30, 60, 100 and 365 days keeps the habit alive.
- Don't overcook it. The fitness & fatigue metrics warn you before ambition turns into injury.
- Race the week. Weekly leagues score effort, not pace, so every honest week is a competitive week.
